So today’s gonna be a little different, but before I explain that part, here are some quotes I found that I feel relate to Thanksgiving:
What would you do if you woke up tomorrow morning and all you had is what you thanked God for yesterday?
Someone else is happy with less than you have.
Ok, now for the different part: I want you to take a minute and think about what these quotes mean to you. Then, type out what you thought and comment! I want to hear what you thought of these quotes and what they mean to you.
Sorry today was short, but I want my blog to be more interactive in a way, so I decided to try this out!
Before you go and comment what those quotes mean to you, here’s a little reminder:
Yes, Thanksgiving is one day of the year. But who ever said you only need to give thanks to God one day each year?
“Someone else is happy with less than you have.” When I read this quote, my mind instantly thinks of people over in Africa or some other part of the world that don’t really have anything – but yet they’re joyful. We all have so much more than we need, but if you take a look around, that’s not how it is for everyone. So be thankful with what you have.
“What would you do if you woke up tomorrow morning and all you had is what you thanked God for yesterday?” This quote hit me. Like, dang. Ask yourself that question. Ephesians 6:18 says, “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” Pray on ALL occasions. No matter what you’re going through, there is still so much to be thankful for and so many things to praise God for.
Wow…never read that first quote…ouch! That would certainly be a wake up call to how little we express our gratitude for what we have. This year I wanted to turn from being thankful for “things” to being thankful for eternal realities…here’s my list:
It’s OK to be thankful for things…but this year I’m thankful for
what I don’t understand:
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7
what is unseen:
while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:18
that which is beyond all I can ask or think:
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Ephesians 3:20
rest:
Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
What would you do if you woke up tomorrow morning and all you had is what you thanked God for yesterday?
– What an amazing reminder Char! I definitely go in waves where my prayers have sometimes more gratitude, and other times just full of lament and requests. Even in the midst of the requests, I love the reminder there is SO much to thank God for, and how it all comes to completion on Jesus! To answer the question directly, it honestly depends on the time. Some days, I would wake up with what I have in my day to day life, and being honest there would be some days I wouldn’t wake up with anything. Thank you for the reminder, reminding me of Philippians 4:6-7 which says “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation by prayer and petition, with THANKSGIVING, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Someone else is happy with less than you have.
I love this, because in Philippians 4:11 Paul says He has learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I think it’s ok to be honest with God when we’re sad or upset, as John 16:33 does say in this world we will have trouble (as in all of us), meaning every single life in this fallen world will have turmoil, BUT because of Jesus we can always be content and have joy in the midst of anything this life throws at us! 🙂 I am so grateful you are my constant reminder of that Charity, love you and Happy Thanksgiving! ❤️
