Last year, Jace, Joy, me, and some of our neighbor friends started the: Sherman Parc Circle Kidz’ Church (I know, it’s kinda long)! Sometimes parents came, sometimes even grandparents came!
First, we would set up chairs in someone’s garage (usually it was ours). Once everyone who was coming was there, we would start out with worship. I was always on the worship team and everyone else kind of kept switching. The songs were played from our Alexa, and we danced to them using the moves that I had taught everybody (most of the songs were from our actual church, other songs we just picked and added moves to).
Then whoever was preaching that day would come up to the front, say a welcome, do communion (which was always bits of sourdough bread and blueberry-pomegranate vitamin water), and then give their sermon. One week I was the pastor and I spoke on fear. This is what I said:
Hello everybody! Welcome to the 1st official meeting of the Sherman Parc Circle Kidz’ Church! (Introduce yourself. Explain how you need to be polite in church*.) Today I’m going to talk about what I bet some of us are dealing with during this season of covid-19: fear. C’mon, admit it. You’re probably wondering:
When is it gonna end?
What is life going to be like after covid?
Or, one that I keep asking myself: When can we stop wearing these stupid MASKS?!?
Yes, we’re not gonna know when covid is gonna end or what life’s gonna be like after or when we can stop wearing masks. Only God knows. So we need to know that he has a plan…and a good one at that.
*Some kids in the neighborhood (who will remain unnamed) had a hard time sitting still and keeping their mouth shut.
I’m gonna be flat-out honest with you…my greatest fear is being alone.
Ever since I was little, I would stay awake as long as I could, listening to my parents talking or watching TV to make sure that they wouldn’t leave me. Now, I know that might sound crazy, but it’s true.
Today, I know that my parents would never, ever, EVER do that.
Same with being in stores. I used to keep a close eye on my mom or whoever I was shopping with so I didn’t lose them. And if they rounded a corner or were out of my sight, I almost panicked.
Now, I don’t know what your fear is, or even if you have one, but let me tell you this:
GOD IS IN CONTROL.
A while back I made a song titled “He’ll Be There”. It talks all about how God walks with us and is right by our side all of the time.
So trust him. One of my favorite Bible verses, Jeremiah 29:11, says: “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you; plans to give you a hope and a future.”
Deuteronomy 31:6 says: Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.
Psalms 55:22 says: Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.
There are a whole lot of verses that talk about fear. Go and look through the Bible. Go search it up on your Bible app on your phone. God is here for you. He won’t leave you. He’s right next to you, right now, holding your hand.
Question: What are some of your fears and how has God helped you deal with them? (Comment below!)
Wow, Charity! Quite a timely devo on “Fear.” It’s so enjoyable reading your thoughts. A DAILY blog is a big undertaking. You’re doing a fabulous job. you‼️❣️
Your grandpa and I are always so blessed to be in on your church services and to hear you preach whether it is there in your garage or here at our home when you are visiting. Go to it girl! Yes, fear is something we all deal with, especially as kids. Promises from God’s word are what keep us fearless. Good words! Thank you!
