Most of you probably know what today is: Joy’s birthday! She’s now 7. (Can’t wait till she opens her present from me! Hint: It’s another bracelet to add to her collection.)
A lot of things in life, we take for granted. Like clean water, a roof over our heads, food whenever we want it. For me, it just passes my mind that some people in the world don’t have that. (Note: My youth group’s doing a Charity: Water fundraiser in January! Want to help?)
I take my siblings for granted. This blog, even. For Pete’s sake, I take my dog for granted. Lots of kids around the world don’t have an adorable, goofy fuzball (yes, that’s what we call her sometimes).
Heck yes, siblings can be annoying. But I can count way happier, funny times with my siblings than I can count annoying times.
Joy is just a little goofball. She likes attention (can you tell?) and being just plain goofy. She can talk, talk, talk all day. She sings random made-up songs and likes to be in her pink zebra PJs all day. (She’s really ticklish, too….)
As I am writing this, she is sitting in a chair, on my mom’s old computer, writing a book (it’s a chapter book about a missing girl, just FYI, and the girl just asked her captor if she heard his tummy rumble).
The other night, we were on the couch, and Joy just plops right down on me. “Oh, sorry,” she says, “People just think you’re name is ‘Chair’.”
HA. HA. SO FUNNY (I’m being sarcastic).
The main point is, I’m thankful for my little sister. If you know her, she does live up to her name.
Life is short. Be thankful for the people around you. Spend time with them. Laugh. Smile. Dance around and be silly (boy oh boy, we do that a lot).
And don’t take this life for granted. It’s gonna go by fast.
Daily Challenge: Grab a notepad or whatever, and write some ideas to help you not take things for granted.
Comment Below: What’s something in your life that you take for granted, and how can you work on not taking it for granted?
Something I take for granted is having a roof over my head. I often see what needs to be done instead of being content. But I’m going to work on practicing more thankfulness + gratefulness.
Love this Charity! Happy birthday to joy also. I’m glad she waited till the 28th to be born 7 years ago!!
I take the ability to go see adorable, beautiful, horses every week for granted. The sport is expensive and dangerous. But I’m still blessed to do it!
