Serving Others

If you had one final day to live, what would you do?

I’m not sure what I would do; probably have all my friends and family over, have a one-on-one, heart-to-heart chat with some of them, then just hang out with everybody and have a blast (YOLO:)).

What would you do? Think about it for a minute.

You know what Jesus did on his last day? He washed people’s feet.

FEET. Now, I don’t know about you, but, honestly, on my last day to live, I would prefer to do something else rather than wash people’s dirty, smelly feet. Most people this day in age would probably take a vacation, hangout with loved ones, or do something adventurous, like skydiving. Although Jesus probably wouldn’t have been able to go skydiving, there probably were about a million other things he could’ve done that wasn’t cleaning other people’s stinky feet.

In the book of Matthew (which is a really good book by the way), Matthew writes so much about Jesus’s life. In chapter 20, verse 28, Matthew wrote: “Just as the Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

We can learn so much about Jesus and his life by reading the Gospels. He was – and IS – such a good example of serving others. Imagine if we were all a little more like Jesus – how much would this world change?

Think about it – Jesus KNEW he was going to die. To give his life for us. He could’ve relaxed at home and chilled; maybe eat some really, really good food. But what did he do instead?

How can you, today, serve others? Don’t worry; it doesn’t have to be a bunch of people, maybe just a family member or a friend. It doesn’t have to be too crazy, but I encourage you to do something.

It is good to live each day as if it were our last then let the Lord each day direct our hearts: perhaps a card put in the mail or a phone call to an old friend,, Maybe it is reaching out to a loved one and telling them how much you love them. Or God may lay it on your heart to offer to walk with that lonely person next door. The list is endless. Lord, open my eyes and heart each day to see and hear You.

Wonderful thoughts. We never know the struggles that those around us are going through. Kindness is always the best way to encourage others. Thank you for sharing.
